FAQ

What is Sandblasting?

Abrasive blasting (sandblasting) is the operation of forcibly propelling a stream of abrasive material against a surface under high pressure to smooth a rough surface, roughen a smooth surface, shape a surface, or remove surface contaminants.

We offer in-house media blasting for most metals, auto parts, motorcycle parts, race car parts, fencing, patio furniture, bicycle parts, and more. We will smooth welds, deburr and clean up curb rash for an additional charge.

What is Powder Coating?

Powder coating is a type of coating that is applied as a free-flowing, dry powder. The main difference between a conventional liquid paint and a powder coating is that the powder coating does not require a solvent to keep the binder and filler parts in a liquid suspension form. The coating is typically applied electrostatically and is then cured under heat to allow it to flow and form a "skin." The powder may be a thermoplastic or a thermoset polymer. It is usually used to create a hard finish that is tougher than conventional paint. Powder coating is mainly used for coating metals, such as "whiteware", aluminum extrusions, and automobile and bicycle parts.

We offer powder coating with fast turn-around times, have a ton of colors in stock, or can order any color or finish you'd like that we don't have readily available (for an additional fee). Quality coating is our goal, along with outstanding customer service.

What Can Be Powder Coated?

All metal objects that have an electrostatic charge and can withstand 400F can be powder coated. And since the powder coating process is environmentally friendly with no solvent emissions, it's the preferred method to finish any metal in California, the most strictly regulated state in the country for emissions.

The fact is, the durability of powder coating is far superior to solvent paints. So, if quality and durability are important to you, powder coating is the best protection for almost anything that's metal.

What Are the Advantages of Powder Coating?

There are several advantages of powder coating over conventional liquid coatings:

  • Powder coatings emit zero or near zero volatile organic compounds (VOC).
  • Powder coatings can produce much thicker coatings than conventional liquid coatings without running or sagging.
  • Powder coating overspray can be recycled and thus it is possible to achieve nearly 100% use of the coating.
  • Powder coating production lines produce less hazardous waste than conventional liquid coatings.
  • Capital equipment and operating costs for a powder line are generally less than for conventional liquid lines.
  • Powder-coated items generally have fewer appearance differences between horizontally coated surfaces and vertically coated surfaces than liquid-coated items.
  • A wide range of specialty effects is easily accomplished which would be impossible to achieve with other coating processes.
